Who or what is Ixion?
Ixion is the project based round composer/bassplayer/keyboard player: Jankees Braam. I do all the writing and composing, including lyrics, and then I ask friends to play and record the different parts.
Will Ixion play live?
No, and they never will, but never say never ;-)
How did it all start?
It all started in October 1999, after watching a program on TV regarding CryoGenics (the freezing of humans or human parts) and the effects of that process. I won't go into much detail, but one of the problems is dat if you freeze water (and we are build out of water for a large percentage) you create razor sharp ice-crystals. They act upon the human cells as a mowing machine on grass. After thawing the parts we are therefor left with some kind of soup...
Annemieke (my wife) and I were wondering what the social impact and personal effects would be of something like that if, in the futere, we are able to bring people back to life again. What would the effect be on the spirit or the soul. And CryoGenesis was born!
Back then I was still a member of the Symphonic Rock formation Sangamo and the whole project was to be performed by that band. However in the summer of 2000 the band split and I had to find a new home for CryoGenesis, because after all the time and effort that had gone into it, it would be a shame to let it go to waste. I also had a lot of problems to get it out of my head, so I had to do something with it. So I started the project Ixion and I didn't have to search long to find the musicians to participate in Ixion. A couple of friends from Sangamo, all the members from S.O.T.E. and a few other friends, 9 persons in total are now involved.
Now we a couple years further. Al lot has happend, a lot was learned and a lot was written. SOTE wrote (and recorded) a new album (Time to end), and I could not sit still either. When you record an album there is not much inspiration involved, its is almost like a job! But making music is also about creating music.
Any other activities?
Apart from my work for Ixion, I have a daytime job as a computer programmer, that keeps me busy for 4 days a week. I am also working as a live sound engineer for a couple of bands: Knight Area, S.O.T.E., Ulyssus and sometimes I work with For Absent Friends.
